World Oral Health Day: It’s Never too Late to Start

The 20th March is recognised across the globe as World Oral Health Day. The message promoted by this fantastic campaign is that it’s never too late to start caring for your teeth.

The better we care for our teeth and our general dental health, the more likely we are to enjoy the privilege of good general health and well-being.

If you don’t take the time to care for your teeth properly, it could put you at risk of serious oral diseases such as mouth cancer.

What do you need to do?

The great news here is that it doesn’t take much time to start caring for your teeth properly. There are 1440 minutes each day, and your teeth only need four of them!

Investing two minutes in the morning and two minutes before bed is enough to make sure your teeth are being properly cared for on a daily basis. During this time, use a good quality tooth brush and a fluoride toothpaste, and make sure you get round all your teeth.

What else can you do to promote good oral health?

Great oral health isn’t just about remembering to brush your teeth. There are other simple steps you can take to put your teeth first.

These include:

  • Cutting down on sugar
  • Avoiding tobacco and excessive alcohol consumption
  • Flossing regularly
  • Visiting your dentist annually for a check up

Taking care of your teeth doesn’t have to be difficult

One of the key messages of World Oral Health Day is that everyone can take simple steps to improve their dental health. Whatever your current situation, there are easy things you can do to improve your dental outlook for the future.
