Are Dental Implants Right For You?
One of the great things about living in the twenty first century is that there’s absolutely no reason to live with bad teeth. There are so many fantastic treatments available, and they come with a variety of benefits, preferences and price points.
If you’re missing a tooth, or if you’re likely to need to have one removed, you may want to know more about dental implants.
What are dental implants?
This excellent treatment offers the chance to replace your missing teeth with a natural-feeling alternative. Dental implants are permanent replacement teeth that are securely fitted into your mouth. So long as you take good care of them, they can last for the rest of your life.
How are dental implants fitted?
Dental implants are fitted with a straight-forward procedure that will be done by your dentist. A small titanium rod is inserted into your jaw, usually using local anaesthetic.
This rod will act as a root for your new tooth. You’ll need to wait for 3-6 months while the titanium fuses with your jaw. Once this process is complete, the titanium will have become part of jaw. This is what makes dental implants so secure and permanent.
Your dentist will then be able to make a crown to be permanently attached to the rod. This will be made to match the colour and shape of your existing teeth.
Is a dental implant right for you?
A dental implant might be right for you if you:
- have missing teeth
- are currently wearing uncomfortable dentures
- have loose or decayed teeth
A dental implant is ideal for those who want a permanent solution. This treatment is available on the NHS where it is considered ‘clinically necessary’, but is open to anyone on a fee-paying basis.
